Bring a stranger home!! Twelve of my framed photos will be on display and available for sale at the Kaladi location in the Title Wave/REI building. Each image showcases a different human trait. They are beautifully framed in black satin wood frames. The mats are black velvet wrapped by yours truly, and finished with an inner black wood filet. Come check ‘em out!

I did a photo session with local Anchorage boxer and tattoo art celebrity Billy Gibby for the British magazine Bizarre. This is the third time in the past five years that I have worked with Billy on journalistic or commercial shoots. Billy’s claim to fame? Permanent tattoos of corporate logos and domain names… for cash. Billy has also sold skin real estate in order to raise money to donate a kidney to a friend out of state. Billy was the donor and needed cash for travel expenses and to support himself during the recovery.

Arthur Yang, a Hmong community leader in the Anchorage, AK area is being featured in the upcoming journal, “Northwest Public Health” published by the University of Washington’s Northwest Center for Public Health Practice. My portrait of Arthur will accompany that piece. The photo was made at the 13th annual Hmong New Year Festival inside the giant sports dome at Changepoint (an Anchorage mega-church).

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! In Adrift news, I am still eagerly awaiting Fujifilm’s release of the new X100 classic-styled digital camera. In the meantime, I have taken a step in the opposite direction and have started shooting medium format film. Meet my ‘new’ rig – a Yashika Mat124-G twin-lens reflex camera. It shoots both 120 and 220 film in square 6×6 format. The first roll is developed and the camera works perfectly!
Medium format has a much larger negative than 35mm (and higher resolution than most current digital cameras on the market). This type of camera encourages a type of photography that is slow, methodical and contemplative. Hopefully that will translate in my work.
